According hypertrophy thematic objects and context related to the United States, personal values currently questioning the history of art.

Scaling, expanding everyday objects (glass, comb, game, ...) is often used by the artist. This method is based on the theory of "disturbing objects" extoled by Paul Nougé surreal, it's a way to destabilize the viewer, causing a poetic shock and concern about the intentional surrealism.

The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium preserved many works of this hypertrophic style, for example: Forbidden Reading (1936), fire (1943) Heartstrings (1960) ... Besides the hypertrophy of objects, it is clear that the presence values of individual links between Magritte reveals USA. The work clearly shows the relationship between Magritte and his American representative, Alexander Iolaus. In 1948, Magritte get Iolaus commitment that ensures lasting visibility in New York, the launch of a first exhibition followed by a series of successful shows. In 1952, Iolaus personal values is proposed, in a letter dated April 25. The lyrics are recurring themes in the analysis of the paint or selective taste of Americans, like or dislike certain works.

Various works of Magritte are absent at this time, as planned by October 2014 to the United States, at the Magritte exhibition: The Mystery of the Ordinary, 1926-1938 (New York MoMA Houston Menil Foundation and Chicago Art Institute) therefore, the Magritte Museum is particularly pleased to present a great work, plus a wide selection of surrealist works of art from the collection.
