Property Doctors: how can I fix my creaky floorboards?

Q We bought a 13-year-old chalet bungalow two years ago and were informed that the ground floor was a “floating” one. Our bedroom is downstairs and we have become increasingly aware of the floor creaking when walked on.

We understand that there are no joists to screw the floorboards (which look like large pieces of MDF glued together) to more firmly. The only downstairs room that does not creak is the kitchen, which has been ceramic tiled, but we are reluctant to tile the whole bedroom floor.

Can you suggest another solution, or would this be our best option?
