Three Sizzling Sanguisorbas chosen by plant hunter Lark Hanham

Varying from brilliant white through to ruby red, Sanguisorbas have been bolstering the crescendo of the summer __garden with their sizzling hot tones for more than 200 years. They demonstrate light, branching, slender statures, which vary from 30cm to a whopping 1.8m in height. Although they are a relatively small family, they make up for their lack of numbers by offering extensive aesthetic diversity, to suit every taste and location. Flowering stems can be best described as unimposing and airy, a characteristic relished in informal borders to add height and movement and late seasonal colour and remarkable winter silhouettes. They are hardy perennials that produce neat, herbaceous, rhizomatous rooted mounds of attractive foliage. Rarely affected by pests and diseases, they prefer fertile, moist soil in full sun. When selecting Sanguisorbas, opt for aesthetic varieties as they will freely hybridise, and in a couple of years you will have your very own new varieties. Spread 40cm.
