Gardens to visit this weekend

Caer Beris Manor Hotel, Nr Builth Wells,
Powys LD2 3NP

In glorious countryside in mid Wales, Caer Beris is the perfect place for an autumn walk through 27 acres bordered on one side by the River Irfon. The __garden also has a rich heritage; as well as having the distinction of being one of the group of gardens that opened for the NGS in its very first year of 1927, it is full of rare specimen trees and shrubs planted by its early 20th century owners the Vivien family who were plant hunters. At this time of year there is glorious autumn colour and while children will enjoy exploring the whole area they will especially enjoy the suspension bridge across the river.

Open in aid of the National Gardens Scheme Sun 16 October, 11am-4pm. Admission £4, children free, home-made teas, plants for sale, dogs welcome.

Frankham Farm, Ryme Intrinsica,
Nr Sherborne, Dorset, DT9 6JT

Frankham Farm, Dorset Credit: NGS

A three and a half acre __garden created in Dorset countryside and surrounded by a working farm, this is a wonderfully relaxing place to visit at any time of year. Now the woodland walks are taking on the tints of autumn colour, but there are still flowers out in the herbaceous borders and fruit and vegetables to admire in the kitchen garden.

Open in aid of the National Gardens Scheme Sun 16 October, 11am-6pm. Admission £4, children free. Home-made teas, plants for sale.

The Old Vicarage, The Street, Washington, West Sussex RH20 4AS

The Old Vicarage, Sussex Credit: Judi Lion/NGS

The garden at the Old Vicarage has memorable views to the South Downs which are especially good at this time of year in low autumn light. But a new Japanese garden adds to the rich variety you will find to enjoy within the garden itself, all in all a delightful place for an autumn outing.

Open in aid of the National Gardens Scheme Sat 16 October 11am-3.30pm. Admission £ 4.50, children free. Home-made teas.
