Book Blurb
A gentle hippie with a new heart, a hellion making good, and a rebel doctor discover together how healing takes more than just medicine.
Dr. Brendan West, a dreamer and a doctor, knows there’s more to life than the job, and he wants to experience it for himself. His first step after finding a temporary job at St. Hawk’s is falling for kind-hearted gardener Evan—only to discover that Evan’s already taken by boisterous Griff.
For his part, Griff sees this as more of an opportunity than a threat. He likes the good doc’s kind heart and clear eyes, and the way he sees it, their lonely doc needs them just as much, or more. With Evan on board, he sets to work bringing Brendan into a ménage relationship.
Brendan knows he could fall hard for the odd couple, but the thing is—he’s not in St. Hawk’s for the long haul. He can’t bear to surrender his heart if he’s only going to leave it behind.
Can the doctor, the gardener and the hellion find a way to make it work, or will they find themselves losing out on love?
Book Review
It was no hardship at all to read 'Take Heart', book one in Willa Okati's new series, 'St. Hawk's Medical'. I am familiar with this author, so I knew I could expect a sweet, fun, gentle, and sexy read. Just what I needed, trust me. *grins*
Brendan is lonely, a little sad, and trying to get his mindset put back together, on a working vacation at St. Hawk's Medical, so he can venture back out into the madcap world again. Evan is adorable, loving, gentle, and after a heart transplant, always wanting to make the most of every minute, of every day. Griff, Evan's partner, is full of joie de vivre, making the most of life, while wielding a wicked sense of humor, a sharp wit, and a contrary nature. These three men coming together, in more ways than one, is vibrant and chock full of energy. And did I mention beautiful? Yes. Very. Very. Beautiful.
"Evan didn’t mind. He liked the feeling of being surrounded, enveloped by humanity. People were beautiful creatures, only most of them never figured that out. Too busy trying to one-up themselves, or too convinced they never could, and they wasted so much time they could spend living instead. Not him. He’d learned that lesson. Brendan hadn't."
Such a fascinating character study of these three men. Brendan is, by far, the most cautious, when it comes to his heart. Oh, he yearns for what Evan and Griff want to see happen between the three, but Brendan is so afraid of giving his heart, and then this established couple will tire of him. Evan is the patient one, willing to subtly make the moves to ensure the outcome that all three of them need. And Griff is stubborn, headstrong, and ready to throw caution to the winds. See what I mean by fascinating?
"Because every time he saw a moment like that pass between them, he understood that while they might want him, they would be fine together long after he was only a fading memory in St. Hawk’s. They didn’t need him."
An interesting and enjoyable read. Thank you, Willa. I'm hoping, in the next book, to get a better perspective on this little town and its complicated inhabitants.
